BASED ON A TRUE STORY NOT OKAY ON HULU?
With the year over halfway through, it’s easy to say that 2022 has been a fantastic year for moviegoers.
With significant works like Alex Garland’s Men, Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, Robert Eggers’ The Northman, Joseph Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick, and so on, there has been something for everyone.
Although all of those had their theatrical debuts, as may have observed, streaming has still been very advantageous for movie fans. Not Okay, which debuted on Hulu on Friday, July 29, 2022, is one of the most recent movies to garner interest.
Don’t be misled by the title. This American black comedic satire movie is excellent. to put it mildly.
BASED ON A TRUE STORY, NOT OKAY?
Quinn Shephard, who also served as the project’s director, wrote the original screenplay for No, Not Okay, which is not based on a true story.
Danni Sanders is the subject of a lens that looks further into what Not Okay is all about. She would love nothing more than to be well-known, surrounded by adoring friends, and on the cultural pulse. She therefore comes up with a strategy to grow her social media following.
Eureka. She makes the decision to stage a lavish trip to Paris. But when a terrorist strike occurs and she is believed to be one of the survivors, things get tough.
She takes advantage of the chance to enter the media stage now that she is in the spotlight.
SHE SHOULD PUSH AT SOMETHING IN YOU, she said.
Despite not being based on a true occurrence, Not Okay is a parody on modern culture and social media that also touches on issues like trauma and PTSD.
Writer-director Quinn Shephard discussed the movie and why he believed it was vital to share the narrative in an interview with IndieWire.
“I am a strong supporter of the notion that you don’t need to produce movies about characters who make wise decisions in order to make a point. Who does it help to tell very sanitised tales about perfect people? Since most individuals won’t identify with that,
“A lot of people should identify with Danni,” she continued, “particularly young, white women who spend a lot of time online. She should nudge you in such a way that you wonder, “How can I be less like Danni Sanders? ’”
