Pablo Escobar’s wife
Pablo Escobar was a Colombian drug lord who ruled over the fearsome Medelln Cartel in the 1970s, 1980s, and early 1990s. He is widely regarded as one of the most dangerous and lethal criminals the world has ever seen. While numerous movies, books, and TV programs have focused on the activities of this vicious real-life villain, including Netflix’s Narcos, less attention has been given to Pablo Escobar’s wife (yes, he was married!). For more than a decade!) We take a peek at the lady behind the “King of Cocaine” in this article.

Pablo Escobar Is The Most Notorious Drug Lord Of All Time
Pablo Escobar was born on December 1, 1949, in the Colombian department of Antioquia, the son of a schoolteacher and a farmer. The future kingpin was reportedly unscrupulous from the start, falsifying report cards, selling false degrees, smuggled audio equipment, and stealing gravestones while still a teenager. Escobar was a professional criminal by the early 1970s, routinely conducting street scams, stealing vehicles, and importing narcotics in Medelln, Colombia.
Escobar established his phenomenally successful cocaine enterprise, the Medelln Cartel, in 1975. By the mid-1980s, it had become the world’s largest producer of cocaine, sending about 70 to 80 tons of cocaine from Colombia to the United States each month. Escobar was one of the world’s richest men when he died in 1993, with an estimated net worth of $30 billion.
Narcos, a three-season Netflix series, chronicles the amazing tale of this ruthless drug king. The program, which aired from 2015 to 2017, featured Wagner Moura as Pablo Escobar and Boyd Holbrook and Pedro Pascal as the DEA officers charged with apprehending him. It was a smash success, spawning a spin-off series named Narcos: Mexico in 2018.
Escobar was married the whole time he controlled the Medelln Cartel, which may surprise you given his wild criminal lifestyle and cutthroat business operations. So, who was the kingpin’s devoted wife?
Who Was Pablo Escobar’s Wife?
Maria Victoria Henao met Pablo Escobar when she was 12 and married him when she was 15 years old. Despite the fact that he was 11 years her senior, she claims she was captivated by the criminal genius.
“I met Pablo when I was 12 and he was 23,” Henao said in her book Mrs. Escobar: My Life with Pablo. “He was my first and only love in life.” I married him in a church because I believe that marriage vows should be respected. I was up in a male-chauvinist society where women were trained to blindly obey their husbands. Pablo molded me to be his wife and mother of his children, not to question or criticize his decisions, but to just look the other way.”
She fled to Argentina with her two children (daughter Manuela and son Sebastian) when her husband was killed in a gunfight in 1993 and officially changed her name to Mara Isabel Santos Caballero. She remained largely out of the limelight and kept her personal life secret until 2019, when she published her memoirs.
“I felt it was my responsibility to my children that they knew my side of the tale,” she stated of her motivation for authoring the book. “I also want my six-year-old grandson to understand what happened to me.”
Why She Stayed With Pablo Escobar
Henao confesses in her book that being married to a violent drug king was not easy. But she claims she loves him too much to abandon him. “I suffered affairs, insults, humiliations, falsehoods, loneliness, raids, death threats, terrorist assaults, attempted kidnappings of my children, and even lengthy periods of imprisonment and exile,” she said. “It’s all for love.”
The former Mrs. Escobar also says she was frightened to leave. “I couldn’t leave him because of love, but also because of fear, helplessness, and uncertainty about what would happen to my children and myself without him,” she wrote. “I was even scared that if I left him, the most dangerous guy in Colombia would harm me.”
Victoria Was Truly Married To A Monster
Given Pablo Escobar’s heinous conduct, it’s difficult to comprehend Henao’s feelings for him. In her memoir, she describes how Escobar stole her virginity and got her pregnant at the age of 14 before forcing her to undergo an abortion. She also recalls how upsetting it was to learn of his indiscretions, which he tried nothing to hide.
“The talk about his indiscretions was continuous and, to be honest, very upsetting for me,” she wrote. “I remember crying all night long, waiting for light… Pablo had the audacity to construct an apartment hidden behind the stables, near to the main house, to meet with his loves. He also constructed other cottages in more distant locations, where they would go even while we were around.”
She Recently Faced Some Legal Trouble
Henao’s life has not been without scandal, despite the fact that she has moved on from her terrible years with Escobar. She and her son Sebastian were charged with money laundering in Argentina in 2018. The money was thought to be linked to a well-known drug trafficker, but Henao claimed she and her son were not involved.
“I am a prisoner in Argentina just because I am Colombian,” she said.
“They want to try the ghost of Pablo Escobar to show that Argentina is fighting drug trafficking.”
After 15 months in custody, the mother and son were freed and exonerated of all accusations owing to a lack of evidence.
